After fire completely destroyed the original Belper North Mill, William Strutt the owner's son decided to rethink the design of the flammable factory. His revolutionary cast iron framework and stone outer walls became the blueprint for factory buildings and eventually the modern skyscraper! The factory museum outlines the site’s industrial heritage and sits amongst rows of terraced houses built for the workers during Strutt’s era.
