Rutland Water

The smallest county is home to the largest man-made lake in western Europe. Rutland Water has something for everyone. The attractive 3,100-acre reservoir has an international reputation for providing a balance of sport, leisure and wildlife conservation and offers everyone the opportunity to try something new. You can try energetic sports such as windsurfing, rock-climbing or canoeing, hire a dinghy, bicycle or fishing boat or just relax by the water and watch the action around the 25 mile shoreline.

Did you know? Rutland Water was chosen as a key site to help restore the breeding population of Osprey in England. Between 1996 and 2001, 64 young Ospreys were translocated from the Scottish Highlands to Rutland Water where they were provided with enhanced conditions for breeding.
